Euterpe – Guest Mixtape Series

We invited Sydney local band Euterpe to share their ideal mixtape. This is is the first in our band/artist guest series. Your mum shows you this song in the car with the speakers on full blast. You think to yourself “my god, this is gonna catalyse a passion for alternative rock and Ancient Greek modalities”. -Bianca (vocals/guitar) The Nagging Doubts are a great local post-punk act. This song toes the perfect line between groove and soundscape, in my opinion. -Oscar (guitar) My trumpet teacher gave me this album in year 5, and I played it on repeat for years because I didn’t have any other music on my iPod -Conrad (drums) This song is so beautiful and haunting, but somehow simultaneously danceable (or at least foot-tappable…) –Mim (bass) Walking home from uni on a crisp windy Sydney afternoon, you listen to the liquid vibratos of an amber voice coupled with a discordant, fractured guitar. There’s something weird going on out there, man -Bianca This more reflective cut from Lianne La Havas’ 2020 album trades the …

MIXTAPE SIX: SONGS OF SEDUCTION

These are the songs you throw on when you want to get busy. Track 1: Ooh La La – Goldfrapp Track 2: Bob’s Yer Uncle – Happy Mondays ‘Bob’s Yer Uncle’ is the standout track from arguably the only standout album released by the Happy Mondays, the aptly titled ‘Pill ‘N’ Thrills and Bellyaches’. And weaved through out the tune, Shaun Ryder embraces the mantra that ‘questions are more important than answers’, posing timeless conundrums such as: 1. What do you want to hear when we’re making love? 2. Can I hold you from behind and tell you that it’s me? 3. Can I take you from behind and hold you in my arms? 4. What do we need to re-live to bring us close? 5. Why don’t you do it to me? 6. Why don’t you do those things to me? Track 3: Feel Like Makin’ Love – Roberta Flack Beautiful and smooth! Track 4: Luv Machine – Blonde Redhead So many different feelings in this song! Love/hate, attraction/repulsion… a certain vision of a …

Whether you’re still in lockdown or on the other side – the song that has been by your side in your lockdown. MIXTAPE TWO: Find me on the dance floor

No matter where you are, as soon as you hear the opening beats of this song, you’re up on the dancefloor. And when we say dancefloor, we mean a nightclub where no one knows your name, the wedding you weren’t invited to (but managed to sneak your way in), or aisle 6 of your local supermarket.   MIXTAPE TWO: Find me on the Dance FloorLISTEN HERE Want to contribute to our next mixtape? Track 3: You Can Have It All – George McCrae Track 4: Swing Lynn – Harmless Track 5: Broken Arrow: Robbie RobertsonOne of the greatest love songs ever written. Track 6: Message to My Girl – Split EnzThe lyrics and the melancholy mood of the song speaks to how hard it is to say, I like you or ‘I love you’. A song that speaks to that trepidation and can be your voice is a beautiful song. Track 7: Beautiful Cosmos – Ivor CutlerIt’s the best song about love, companionship, tea …
