We invited Sydney local band Euterpe to share their ideal mixtape. This is is the first in our band/artist guest series.
- So Real – Jeff Buckley
Your mum shows you this song in the car with the speakers on full blast. You think to yourself “my god, this is gonna catalyse a passion for alternative rock and Ancient Greek modalities”. -Bianca (vocals/guitar)
- The Pearl – The Nagging Doubts
The Nagging Doubts are a great local post-punk act. This song toes the perfect line between groove and soundscape, in my opinion. -Oscar (guitar)
- Flight to Freedom – Arturo Sandoval
My trumpet teacher gave me this album in year 5, and I played it on repeat for years because I didn’t have any other music on my iPod -Conrad (drums)
- Watering – Big Thief
This song is so beautiful and haunting, but somehow simultaneously danceable (or at least foot-tappable…) –Mim (bass)
- Glueland – Do Nothing
Walking home from uni on a crisp windy Sydney afternoon, you listen to the liquid vibratos of an amber voice coupled with a discordant, fractured guitar. There’s something weird going on out there, man -Bianca
- Courage – Lianne La Havas
This more reflective cut from Lianne La Havas’ 2020 album trades the full band for a more intimate guitar and vocal arrangement, but doesn’t lose any of the passion or charm -Oscar
- The Decaying Light – Disentomb
Disentomb are from Brisbane and their sound has evolved in a very cool way, plus they do really really good shows –Conrad
- Here Come the Warm Jets – Brian Eno
Listening to this song in the car as a kid made me fall in love with music, apparently it’s proto-shoegaze too which is pretty cool. -Mim
- Optimist – Euterpe
