Track 1: Rock Steady – Aretha Franklin
How can you not dance to this song?
Track 2: Miracle – Kimbra
The dancefloor isn’t my natural habitat, to put it mildly, but this is one song that could tempt me. It’s rhythm is undeniable and it penetrates every element of the track.
Track 3: I Like It – The Player’s Association
When I was DJ-ing, I would always finish the night with this song – wanting folk to leave the club with a happy positive mood as they ventured out into the night /morning. It reminds me of those nights with people dancing wildly to this at 2, 3, or 4am in the morning. I love dancing to this. Makes me smile and always brings back happy memories. Oh and I’m particularly drawn to the complex lyrical structure within the song. Although, I’ve never actually ever heard it played at a wedding or danced to it in a supermarket aisle!
Track 4: The Bay – Metronomy
Good base and very catchy – and makes me want to go to a nightclub. Rest in Peace Fredas
Track 5: Rock Lobster – B-52s
When this song comes on, it’s not long before I’m on a table dancing. I once did this song at karaoke and was famous at the pub for the rest of the night; people asked me if I was in a band, and at the end of the night I did a duet of Love Shack with a total stranger. This is a weird song, but I love it, it’s perfect.
Track 6: I am the Resurrection – The Stone Roses
Because of the energy and excitement of the song and its multi-dimensional progression makes it a dancefloor tour de force.
Track 7: Lonely Boy – The Black Keys
This was tough because I will literally dance to anything.
Track 8: The Safety Dance – Men Without Hats
Track 9: Blue Monday – New Order
It’s one of the few songs that club DJ’s will play that I actually like. The pulsating bass drums that opens the tune is hypnotising and simply impossible to refrain from dancing to.
Track 10: Where Did the Party Go? – Fall Out Boy
This song is the boppiest on FOB’s Save Rock and Roll album, and whenever I hear it’s opening baseline I start moving!
Track 11: Fuck The Pain Away – Peaches
From when we were teenagers me and my bestie would drop anything we were doing if this song came on, and still do. Also we used to beg beg beg the DJ in the club we went to to play it for us, but they got annoyed by our many requests.
Track 12: Call Your Girlfriend – Robyn
The first few beats of this song are guaranteed to get me on the d floor, despite the fact I’ve been coupled up since before tinder even existed. It’s the best balance of emotion and party – perfect to cut some interpretive dance shapes to.
Track 13: Ahjustwannadance – Superthriller
Contagious groove by some twenty-ohs UK kids pretending to be jamming in the 80s USA.
Track 14: Uknowhatiwant – Elektrisk Gønner
Weird dance track featuring the unknown-yet Danish singer MØ.
Track 15: Je veux te voir – Yelle
Makes me want to dance, the energy and lyrics are great. Plus I want to be her.
Track 16: Inspector Norse – Todd Terje
I was trying to find a song that wasn’t Saturday Night Fever or Billie Jean that I still occasionally hear on the dance floor on the very few occasions that I am out these days. lol
Track 17: Can’t Stop The Feeling – Justin Timberlake
My guilty pop pleasure; JT is a groovy genius and this song is an infectious toe tapper that gets my hips swinging!
Track 18: The Fez – Steely Dan
This was the first song that got me into Steely Dan, and now I’m addicted to their music. It’s a song I can’t help but dance to!
Track 19: Get Down Saturday Night – Oliver Cheetham
Practising these dance moves from Sonoya Mizuno & Oscar Isaac from Ex Machina as we speak . Meet you on the dance floor.
